On-premise ERPs talk to the REST of the Cloud using iPaaS

iPaaS products provides adapters for connecting to various SaaS and on-premise applications. Organizations which are in need to create conversations between Cloud and on-premise ERP applications are either posed with additional hardware procurement or an absence of a pre-built adapter to on-premise ERPs. In such cases, Organizations can take benefits of REST Services to connect to on-premise ERPs using iPaaS. This paper illustrates how various on-premise big ERPs and databases can expose themselves through RESTful Services and ICS can readily integrate them with the REST of the Cloud applications using REST APIs. Most iPaaS supports various communication protocols to integrate applications and devices. The most common in use that suits the internet protocol is REST. Representational state transfer or RESTful web services are a way to provide communication between two computer system over the HTTP. Using REST one system allows other system to access or manipulate textual representation of data using stateless operations or verbs. This paper will cover the basics of REST and how current programing languages support interfacing mechanism to expose their functionalities for consumption by outside world using REST. It will also cover its applicability in AGILE delivery, promising faster time to market and lucrative return of investments for small to large organizations.
