Mobile Privacy: Analyzing Application Requested Permissions and Privacy Policies

Mobile applications use sensitive user data and user generated content to interact with the functionality of the app. Generally untrusted third-party developers write these mobile applications, and these applications can become a way for the users’ security and privacy to be compromised. Many users do not have the knowledge to make informed decisions about privacy and the software on their mobile platform. There are many app marketplaces with an abundance of apps and the software is highly consumable on the mobile platform. The existence of software is continuing to grow as other platforms like cars and wearables have app stores. Users should to know how to interact with the growing presence of software in their lives and the software’s interaction with their data. The software application’s Privacy Policies and Terms and Conditions documents could help users understand and manage their privacy decisions. In this paper, we investigated Privacy Policies and Terms and Conditions and their relationship to the permissions requests of the mobile application on your device.
