Abstract

Organizations that work on issues related to river and watershed management and advocacy are common throughout the Intermountain West (IMW). These organizations influence policy and management practices and adapt to ongoing issues affecting the rivers and watersheds they focus on, such as increasing frequency and severity of drought. In an ongoing assessment of river and watershed related organizations throughout the IMW region, we have conducted over 160 interviews to learn more about the role these organizations play in increasing the social-ecological resilience of riverine landscapes and communities in the region. In this poster, we will summarize what we have learned thus far regarding organizations' attitudes toward and response to drought. Additionally, we will identify which HUC8 watersheds these organizations focus their efforts within and compare with US Forest Service data on forecasts of future water supply. This will provide insights into how the watersheds that IMW river and watershed organizations work within will be affected by a changing climate and water supply regime.
