GENERAL CALL FOR PAPERS

Urban Program Hackathon

Conference Focus

As human population centers grow and urbanization increases, there is a need for outreach and education programs that specifically target urban residents.

  • Programs need to be flexible and highly visible
  • There is a need for programs that encourage positive interactions with nature, such as wildlife observation, and for programs that decrease negative interactions, such as human behaviors that cause wildlife habituation
  • Many wildlife and conservation professionals are not trained on how to develop programs for urban audiences

Presentation Format

This all virtual conference will consist of pre-recorded presentations, workshops, and tours. For individual presentations, abstracts will be submitted via our website portal and then presenters will be notified of their acceptance by July 20th, 2020. A time slot will then be assigned for the presentation recording session with one of our conference organizers. Access to a computer camera and microphone are necessary.

Oral Presentations – Completed Research, Current Programs or Work in Progress

Oral presentation submissions should discuss current urban outreach or education programs, and cover objectives, planning, implementation, evaluation, and results. Submissions will be reviewed by an independent selection committee. Presentations will be scheduled for 20 minutes. Please indicate if this presentation is research or work in progress. Presentations covering developing programs in the field of urban outreach or education should summarize program objectives, planning, implementation (planned or ongoing), evaluation (planned or ongoing), and results (if applicable).

Oral Presentations – Lightning Talks

"Lightning talks" are four-minute presentations comprised of twelve auto-rotating slides (20 seconds per slide). This fast-paced and engaging format will allow participants to learn about many programs nationwide in a short amount of time! Lightning talk submissions will be reviewed by an independent selection committee. Please indicate if this presentation is research or work in progress.
