This month's podcast features Meryl Mims discussing her research on how stream flow regimes structure fish communities.
Meryl Mims is a freshwater ecologist and doctoral researcher within the School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences at the University of Washington. She is interested in aquatic ecosystems and understanding the responses of biota to natural or human-induced changes in precipitation and flow regimes.
Meryl’s master’s degree research, discussed in this episode, evaluated links between flow regimes and fish community assemblages. This research has direct implications for freshwater conservation in the future with dams, impoundments, and water withdrawal on the forefront of conservation issues. Her PhD research is currently evaluating how changes in precipitation regimes and flow patterns will affect desert aquatic biota.
