Program Introduction

The school's objective is to teach the appraisal concepts, methods, and theories recommended in the WSATA appraisal handbook. Members of the WSATA Centrally Assessed Property Committee developed the school because no other educational program provides this training for employees of state and local assessment jurisdictions. The school offers two separate courses: one for beginning appraisers and one for advanced appraisers.

Who Should Attend

The school is intended to meet the needs of WSATA member states that make unitary appraisals of public utilities and railroads. However, if space is available, interested students from outside WSATA jurisdictions will be welcome to apply. A basic knowledge of primary appraisal principles as well as a rudimentary knowledge of computers and financial calculators is very helpful but not required.

Program Benefits

The courses provide participants with the administrative framework and technical skills to effectively work in the area of utility valuation. Materials are continuously updated to ensure they are current and accurate. Course sizes are limited to encourage student participation and discussion.

Instructors

The courses are developed and taught by senior-level analysts and administrators from both state assessment agencies and private industry, as well as university faculty. Instructors are selected on the basis of extensive academic training, experience, and instructional ability.

About the Location

Utah State University, located in beautiful Cache Valley, is a relaxing 90-minute drive from Salt Lake International Airport through some of the west's most magnificent mountain scenery. Logan is a charming area which offers a country atmosphere yet provides many conveniences of a large city. Winter temperatures in Logan are cold, so please plan to dress accordingly. Conference dress is casual.
