Instars Mentoring Program

The program will sponsor Instars Graduate Mentors by providing a modest stipend ($125-150) for the annual meeting. Student membership in the society is a priority for funding Instars Graduate Mentors; potential for presentation by the graduate mentor during the conference, and the student's number of years as a member of SFS will also be considered but would not preclude funding.

Please note the following eligibility criteria:

  • Participants must be graduate students enrolled in a degree program (part-time or full-time) leading to a Masters or Doctoral degree. Spring 2018 graduates are eligible. Postdoctoral students may also apply as Instars Mentors, however priority will be given to graduate students enrolled in a degree program.
  • For the purposes of these awards, preference will be given to applicants belonging to one or more of the following groups that have traditionally been underrepresented in the freshwater sciences: Black/African Americans, Hispanics/Latinos, Native Americans/ Alaska Natives, Native Pacific Islanders (Hawaiian/Polynesian/Micronesian), Asian American, Indian, and first generation students and persons with disabilities.
  • Student membership in the society is a priority for funding Instars Graduate Mentors; potential for presentation by the graduate mentor during the conference, and the student's number of years as a member of SFS will also be considered but would not preclude funding.
